The BMW M4 is a high-performance sports coupe that occupies the upper tier of the luxury performance segment, competing against rivals like the Mercedes-AMG C63 and Audi RS5. Aimed squarely at driving enthusiasts who want track-capable dynamics wrapped in a premium daily driver, the M4 represents BMW's sharpest expression of its 4 Series platform across the 2019 to 2024 model years we cover.
The 2021 BMW M4 has not been crash-tested by NHTSA, so it carries no Safety Index. Its safety record here is built from 2 recalls and 1 owner complaint on file, giving it a light recall and complaint burden.

Reviewers generally regard the BMW M4 as one of the most rewarding driver-focused coupes in its class, praising its sharp steering, composed chassis, and responsive powertrain. Interior refinement and materials quality draw consistent appreciation, though some reviewers note the ride can feel firm during everyday driving. Overall, the M4 is broadly seen as a benchmark for the segment.
