The Chevrolet Silverado 5500 is a Class 5 medium-duty commercial truck aimed squarely at business operators, fleet managers, and tradespeople who need serious hauling and towing capability beyond what a light-duty pickup can offer. Built on a heavy-duty chassis platform, it serves vocational buyers in construction, landscaping, and municipal work rather than everyday consumers shopping for a family vehicle.
NHTSA has not crash-tested the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 5500, but it carries a park-outside or do-not-drive recall, which is the most serious class of safety campaign. Treat the recall status below as urgent and confirm your VIN with NHTSA.

Reviewers generally position the Silverado 5500 as a capable, well-supported commercial workhorse that benefits from GM's broad dealer network and straightforward vocational upfitting options. Praise tends to focus on its practical cab comfort for a work-focused platform and the range of available configurations, while some reviewers note that the medium-duty segment prioritizes function over refinement.
