ANALYSISHow safe is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler?
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler carries over a Safety Index score of 54 out of 100, identical to the 2021 model year. This flat movement indicates no measurable safety improvement based on our computed index. A persistent structural reality of the Wrangler's tall, narrow, body-on-frame architecture is reflected in the 3-star rollover rating and a 28 percent rollover risk. The defect record component scores 0 out of 20, primarily due to 15 recall campaigns. Three of these were "park outside" orders, a designation signaling elevated risk severe enough for NHTSA or the manufacturer to advise against storing the vehicle in an enclosed space. Specifically, the 4XE high-voltage battery campaign and the hydraulic power-steering pump campaign both carried this designation for the 2022 model year. Crash protection contributed 49.8 out of a possible 70 points to the overall Safety Index, while avoidance technology added only 4.5 out of 10, impacted by the absence of lane departure warning and the optional, rather than standard, forward collision warning. The unchanged index, zero defect-record score, and the three park-outside recall campaigns define 2022 as a year with unresolved safety exposure for the Wrangler.
NCAP // CRASH TESTHow did the 2022 Jeep Wrangler perform in crash tests?
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler garnered 4 out of 5 stars for frontal protection, the highest individual crash-test score it received from NHTSA. Rollover resistance, however, rated lower at 3 out of 5 stars, with NHTSA determining a 28 percent rollover risk. The dynamic tip test concluded with a "No Tip" result. Neither an overall safety rating nor a side impact rating was assigned for this model year.
