CRASH
DATANot crash-tested
The Lexus LS is Toyota's flagship full-size luxury sedan, pitched squarely at buyers cross-shopping the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series. For 2019 through 2021, the fifth-generation LS brings a long-wheelbase cabin, available hybrid powertrain, and a reputation for hushed refinement to the upper end of the American luxury market. It is a low-volume, high-prestige vehicle where safety credentials matter as much as comfort.
The 2019 Lexus LS has not been crash-tested by NHTSA, so it carries no Safety Index. Its safety record here is built from 1 recall and 1 owner complaint on file, giving it a light recall and complaint burden.
- shoppers who want the full federal safety picture in one place
Reviewers generally regard the Lexus LS as one of the most refined and serene cabins in the full-size luxury segment, praising its exceptionally quiet ride, high-quality interior materials, and composed highway behavior. Some note that its driving dynamics feel more oriented toward comfort than outright sportiness, and a few point to the infotainment interface as a weak spot relative to German rivals. Overall, the consensus treats it as a compelling, distinctly Japanese alternative to European flagships.
