The Land Rover Discovery is a premium three-row midsize SUV aimed squarely at adventure-minded families who want genuine off-road capability wrapped in a refined, upscale package. Positioned above the Discovery Sport and below the Range Rover line, it competes in a segment where buyers expect both luxury appointments and serious utility. The Discovery draws shoppers who prioritize capability and brand prestige alongside everyday family practicality.
The 2019 Land Rover Discovery has not been crash-tested by NHTSA, so it carries no Safety Index. Its safety record here is built from 4 recalls and 38 owner complaints on file, giving it a light recall and complaint burden.
- shoppers who want the full federal safety picture in one place
Reviewers generally praise the Discovery for its commanding road presence, supple ride quality, and genuinely capable all-terrain hardware. Interior materials and cabin refinement draw consistent appreciation, and the flexible three-row seating arrangement earns particular mention for family usability. However, reviewers broadly note that the ownership experience can feel inconsistent, and they frequently flag the value proposition given the segment's competitive alternatives.
