NHTSA // CRASH-TESTED
2019 Chevrolet Express
Federal crash-test performance, recalls, and complaints, scored into one NHTSA Safety Index.
The Chevrolet Express is a full-size van, not a sedan, serving commercial fleets, shuttle operators, and large-family haulers across model years 2019 through 2025. Built on a body-on-frame platform, it prioritizes cargo and passenger capacity over refinement. Its buyers are working professionals and organizations that need serious hauling capability, but safety-conscious shoppers deserve a clear-eyed look at what the federal data actually shows.
The 2019 Chevrolet Express earns an NHTSA Safety Index of 64 out of 100, an below average result driven by its federal crash-test stars and its recall record. It has 4 recalls on record, reflected in the score.
- shoppers who want the full federal safety picture in one place
Reviewers generally acknowledge the Chevrolet Express as a capable, no-frills workhorse that excels at raw cargo and passenger capacity. Most note that its platform and technology have changed little over many years, and professional assessments tend to flag the cabin's dated feel and the limited suite of modern driver-assistance features compared to newer competitors.
