2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5
Federal crash-test performance, recalls, and complaints, scored into one NHTSA Safety Index.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a battery-electric crossover SUV that has carved out a serious position in the competitive EV segment since its 2022 debut. Built on Hyundai's dedicated E-GMP platform, it targets tech-forward buyers who want a spacious, modern alternative to the Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E. It brings genuine style and a distinct retro-futurist design to a segment where safety credentials matter as much as range.
Despite a strong crash-test showing, the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 carries a park-outside or stop-driving recall, so read the recall section first. Its 5-star rollover rating stands out for families and child-seat buyers. It has 3 recalls on record, reflected in the score.
- families prioritizing rollover safety
- urban drivers exposed to side-impact risk
Reviewers generally regard the Ioniq 5 as one of the more compelling electric crossovers on the market, praising its distinctive styling, spacious interior enabled by its dedicated EV platform, and strong driving character. Most professional assessments position it as a top-tier choice in its segment, though some note that software and charging-related concerns have surfaced in longer-term evaluations.
