The Ram ProMaster City is a compact cargo and passenger van aimed squarely at small-business owners, tradespeople, and fleet operators who need urban-friendly dimensions without sacrificing utility. Slotting below the full-size ProMaster, this model years 2019 through 2022 occupies a competitive but niche segment where practicality drives the purchase decision, making its safety profile all the more important to scrutinize before signing.
The 2020 Ram Promaster City has not been crash-tested by NHTSA, so it carries no Safety Index. Its safety record here is built from 2 recalls and 1 owner complaint on file, giving it a light recall and complaint burden.

Reviewers generally find the ProMaster City a capable and space-efficient compact van that earns points for its car-like driving dynamics and practical interior layout. Most note that the cabin materials and overall refinement sit at a utilitarian level appropriate to the segment, and that the van delivers reasonable value for business-focused buyers, though its driving comfort is considered modest compared to passenger-oriented vehicles.
